You must have a safe and sterile environment when performing any advanced beauty or aesthetic procedure.

Sanitation

Before working on each client and or if interrupted during a procedure, you must thoroughly wash and dry your hands using hygienic practices.

  • Disposable unused examination gloves should be worn on both hands during the permanent make up process. Gloves should be changed and disposed of into a waste bin each time they encounter an object or surface other than the client’s prepared skin, or the material being used for the procedure. Gloves should be replaced when they become torn or punctured or whenever their ability to function as a barrier is compromised.
  • Each practitioner should wear a clean apron over clean dry clothing.
  • Practitioners who are experiencing symptoms of diarrhoea, vomiting, fever, rash, cough, skin infection, and boils or scabies should refrain from carrying out advanced beauty or aesthetic treatments and re-schedule the client to another time once better.
  • Cabinets for the storage of instruments, and single use articles should be clean and ready for the practitioner and need to be maintained in a sanitary manner which protects the instruments from contamination.
  • Needles should be discarded into the sharps waste container immediately after the procedure.
  • The surface of all worktables, chairs and benches should be constructed of material which is smooth, non-absorbent and easily cleanable with a germicidal solution after each procedure. All hard surfaces in the procedure areas should be disinfected after each client, (according to the manufacturer’s instructions for contact time) then wiped down with a paper towel which is disposed of into a waste bin.
  • All material applied to the skin should be single use and disposed of after each use.
