There are two different Microblading techniques.
Technique #1: Manual Microblading or embroidery is the famous and most-used technique worldwide. The pigment is scratched into the skin using a group of needles, with each scratch creating a hair stroke. This technique is sometimes called hair-stroking tattoos. In Asia, it’s widely known as eyebrow embroidery.
Technique #2: The Manual Soft tap technique is when pigment is tapped into the skin using the blade to create a multi-dimensional look, with some areas lighter and some darker. This technique is not commonly used in beauty salons. The soft tap is originally modified from the Japanese body tattoo technique, Tebori, which is widely known to be painful.
Types of treatments
Three different treatments can be carried out using Microblading techniques.
Microblading
Microblading is a form of permanent makeup that’s applied to the upper dermis using a handheld tool. The tool, known as a pen, consists of between 6 – 18 micro needles hence the name microblade. Microblading can be successfully performed with a special machine as well.
This method is ideal for anyone wanting to enhance the look of their eyebrows with natural looking hair-like strokes, regardless of the amount of hair present. The results are a natural, flawless, fuller looking brow that can last anywhere from 1 to 3 years.
Microshading/Ombre Brows
Microshading, also known as ombre brows or powder brows, is a permanent eyebrow procedure that produces the look of shaded brows that are darker at the tails and lighter at the front.
The Microshading technique gives a gradient powdered effect that is misty in the front. This allows the brows to be individually customised to be soft and natural or bold and defined, much like a filled-in makeup look.
Unlike traditional brow tattoos that can be harsh and blocky, ombre brows produce more realistic-looking results. The results are waterproof, smudge-proof, and sweat-proof brows that are beautiful and realistic.
Microshading is thought to last longer than Microblading—about 1 to 3 years with proper care and maintenance.
The Combo Brow
Combination brows are perfect for clients wanting to achieve a more powdered look to their natural brows. This procedure combines both Microblading and Microshading techniques using a cosmetic tattoo machine or different implantation techniques with the microblade tool.
This look aims to achieve natural hair strokes along with the depth of shading in the tail of the brows. To achieve the perfect depth, you’ll need to map out and customise the shading requirements of the natural brow shape. The completed result of this procedure will last anywhere between 2-3+ years depending on skin type.
